Hyderabad Park Hyatt Hotel, Indea, 2004

Program: Phase I – 250-Key Five Start Hotel and 110-Unit Service Apartment, Phase II – 170-Unit Service Apartment

This is an urban site with typical restrictions, in terms of building height, set-back and access. This limits the building’s profile initially. Using the traditional Vastu principle, the possibility of any creation sets the perimeter for the design - a big box. With these requirements, the design progresses to a solution for the interior space, instead of the exterior space. This leads the design to form a central courtyard surrounded by the building components. Each component further breaks down to balance the scale within the neighboring urban context.

As the building mass dominates the initial impression of the building, the façade solution emerges as a key element articulating the architecture in detail. Here, the design strategy simply uses a module system to create an almost random façade system. It is complexity from order. The system uses three panels to generate many possible combinations. Each combination redefines the new impression for the big box. In addition to the façade curtain wall, a sun screen system overlays the top of the curtain wall creating another layer to engaging efficiency and architecture aesthetic.
